Oak tree sculpture made of aluminum alloy wire mounted on Catalpa wood burl.

The tree itself is made completely of a single aluminum alloy there is no glue or welds and has no type of coating and is of a type of alloy that is extremely corrosion resistant and very easy to care for. The Catalpa wood mount is stained and hand polished.

This work is 21 inches tall 23 inches wide (at the roots) and 18 inches deep (at the roots).

How amazingly intricate and lovely. The beauty of the wood shines through with such grace, and juxtaposes (for lack of a better word) the wire perfectly. The wire... where would I start? The texture, the finish, the overall feel of the piece are all so gorgeous. It's incredible what you've achieved with wire and wood. Absolutely breathtaking work.

This is definitely the most striking piece I've seen in a while. Getting such an organic shape from metal really shows your mastery of the material.

the craftsmanship is amazing...the tree is amazing...

i smile when i see the tree because id been wanting to try that with silver wire as well...

my only critique would be the composition as a whole...maybe its the picture itself, but the wood burl and the tree seem to be 2 separate elements...

the line of the tree is vertical and horizontal, but the wood burl curves away and doesn't seem to integrate at all with the tree and just seems to look like a turd sitting there...

You could get ride of the wood burl at this point and only strengthen the composition...the tree is strong enough to stand on it's own...the wood is just a distraction...

Thank you making quality works are important to me I agree the base is distracting but is needed as this tree will not stand well by itself as it is top heavy. I tried a few types of base and this one worked best at the time.
I hope to find a better solution sometime.

would it have worked to mount it on a simple flat stained board or possibly to curve the roots to make them envelop the base as you have it?

Thanks for the suggestion but I wanted to make the roots the way they actually grow on a real tree so bending them down is not in the picture for me. I tried a flat type base and It did not look right to me. Finding the right base for my trees can be a lengthy process for me it once took 3 years and many tries before I found something I really felt was right.
